The Key-worker System
A key-worker system is a member of staff with special responsibility for particular children.
They help settle a child in pre-school, keeping a particular watchful eye during the first few sessions.
The child’s key-worker will endeavour to ensure that a child’s individual needs are met within the group, so that activities are planned with individual children in mind.
Key-workers are there for emotional support, to comfort and reassure a child if in distress.
Key-workers will be able to inform parents about their child’s activities and achievements. They will be responsible for monitoring a child’s progress by observing and keeping written records, in line with OFSTED requirements.
A child’s key-worker will not shadow the child during sessions, they will be involved with children in another group and accordingly, other members of staff will continue to be involved.
All staff will still be watchful and caring to all children at Rainbow’s End. Any concerns that parents may have may be discussed with the co-ordinator or key-worker
Information given by parents/carers to the pre-school co-ordinator or key-worker will not be passed on to other adults without permission.
